These grade-level descriptions offer a snapshot of each lower level grade offered at Heritage Christian Academy:
HCA Kindergarten utilizes the A BEKA Curriculum and adds hands-on activities to encourage learning to play and work together. The reading curriculum is enhanced by integrating short stories and easy chapter books.
A few of the enrichment activities include celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday; a build-a-bear workshop; visiting a pumpkin patch; and trips to the McWane Center and the Birmingham Zoo. Kindergarten culminates with a graduation ceremony and a cap and gown processional
HCA Lower Elementary continues the development of language and reading and writing skills. Manuscript writing begins in 2nd grade. Increasing levels of autonomy are encouraged and practiced in preparation for transition to upper elementary (4th grade).
In 1st grade, students participate in career week. In 2nd grade, our “Amerikids” event highlights patriotism. As a part of our science course, 3rd graders research a specific animal and then offer a unique presentation called “Animal Day”. At the "Animal Day" event, students dress as their respective animal and deliver a "speech" of interesting animal facts to spectators.
