Heritage Christian Academy 3rd Graders Awarded McWane Science Center Grant for Celebrate Science Competition

Bessemer, AL — Third grade students at Heritage Christian Academy have been awarded a grant from the McWane Science Center to participate in its Celebrate Science Competition, an innovative program designed to spark curiosity and creativity through hands-on science learning.

The goal of the Celebrate Science Competition is for students to design and build a prototype of an interactive exhibit that fulfills McWane Science Center’s mission: to spark wonder and curiosity about our world through hands-on science experiences. Through this exciting opportunity, students are exploring the principles of exhibit design, the engineering design process, and collaborative teamwork.

As part of the project, students work together to brainstorm ideas, solve problems, and construct their exhibit prototype. Along the way, they strengthen critical thinking skills, develop artistic creativity, and learn the importance of each individual’s role within a team. The experience encourages perseverance, communication, and innovation while making science engaging and accessible.

Heritage Christian Academy’s third graders are currently hard at work developing their prototype, which will be submitted for competition in April. Their participation reflects the school’s commitment to fostering curiosity, hands-on learning, and academic excellence at an early age.

Faculty and school leaders are proud of the students’ enthusiasm and dedication as they apply real-world problem-solving and engineering concepts in meaningful ways. The program not only enriches classroom instruction but also empowers students to see themselves as young scientists, designers, and innovators.
