High school students at Heritage Christian Academy in McCalla will have multiple opportunities through this academic year to gain valuable skills and network with various entities in the community. The goal of Heritage is to equip students for life through academics and service to Christ. These new opportunities support that mission and seek to blend the disciplines of learning and engagement.
Beginning in September, the juniors and seniors at HCA will participate in the first ever “Leadership Days”, a two day workshop under the direction of School Counselor, Belinda Sherouse. “The goal of these leadership days is to encourage our oldest students and to help inspire them to be leaders in and out of school,” Sherouse reports. “Our hope is that seniors will learn about themselves and each other and will be able to really take up the mantle of leadership this year and that the Juniors will follow suit and become leaders as well.” Activities will include guest presentations on the topics of leadership and being a disciple as well as team building activities that focus on teamwork and collaboration. Small group discussion will give the students the opportunity to talk about personalities, strengths and weaknesses, spiritual gifts, etc. and how to use these to be a leader.
Heritage will also be partnering with Chick-fil-A Leader Academy this school year. Chick-fil-A Leader Academy teaches leadership principles to students and allows them to execute their learnings through various service projects throughout the community. Students will be selected based on their leadership applications for participation in this elite program. HCA is thrilled to be partnered with such a wonderful organization and are extremely grateful to the McCalla Chick-fil-A and its operator for partnering with us.
The administration at Heritage Christian Academy is always open to local collaborations that will benefit both our students and the McCalla community at large. In our first year at our campus in McCalla, our students provided service and support to Plantation Manor Nursing Home, Bundle of Hope Diaper Bank, Church of the Highlands McCalla, Grace Place, and West Blocton HS Band.
